Senior Tax Accountant

Reports to: Tax Manager


Primary Function

The Senior Tax Account is responsible for the preparation of tax returns and tax estimates for manager review; initial review of tax returns prepared by staff and interns, and general tax compliance responsibilities.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare federal and state partnership, corporate, not-for-profit, and other tax returns
  • Initial review of returns prepared by tax staff and tax interns
  • Develop client relationships by providing timely and accurate client service to exceed client expectations
  • Assist and train staff on software
  • Analysis and preparation of complex tax returns and potential client transactions
  • Research federal and state tax issues
  • Resolve disputes or inquiries from tax authorities
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • General knowledge and understanding of federal, state and other tax laws
  • Thorough understanding of financial accounting and GAAP
  • Strong research and analytical skills
  • Proficient at book/tax adjustments
  • Working knowledge of real estate transactions and related tax issues
  • Familiarity with various entity types and related tax issues
  • Able to read and interpret legal, corporate and debt documents
  • Team player/ability to work well with co-workers and other departments
  • Computer literate, particularly spreadsheets, Microsoft Suite, tax return software (CCH ProSystem FX tax preferred), research software (CCH, etc.)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Educational Requirements and Experience

  • Bachelors degree in accounting
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in tax
  • CPA license or progress toward completion of license requirements
  • Authorized to work in the US without sponsorship
  • Experience with real estate and partnerships preferred
